Sonjas Rapport plot

Sonia comes from the progressive middle class and joins the communist youth movement at a very young age. As a newly married woman, she follows her husband Rolf to Shanghai, but is certainly not prepared to withdraw into private life, not even as a young mother. Taking advantage of her introduction to Dr. Richard Sorge, she is recruited by the Soviet Union as a spy. After a long training period near Moscow, she goes to Manchuria with her child and her chief agent Ernst. She has understanding and support from her husband who knows that despite all the love he cannot keep his wife to himself.
