Sold at Auction plot

To renounce all that reminds him of his dream of happiness, shattered by his wife's infidelity, Stanley sends his little daughter Nan away to be cared for by a woman named Hopkins. He regularly sends money to support her, but never visits her. Nan is treated like a slave and never receives any of the money intended for her. Her first real happiness comes in the sincere love of the young reporter Hal.
