Coco is a writer living in Berlin. She seeks inspiration for the final chapter of the book she is currently writing. For this she goes back to her past in Shanghai. She lives an intense life here in this vibrant city. She hangs out a lot in the nightlife, but she is also writing her first novel. Suddenly her life changes when she is attracted to two very different men. The first is a young Chinese artist named Tiantian, who suffers from depression. He tries to solve this by using marijuana. When it turns out that Tiantian is impotent, a platonic love develops in which Coco feels very much for him. She therefore thinks that he may be the one for her. The second man is called Mark, is from Berlin, and is very different from Tiantian. Mark is much more physically attractive and is a successful businessman. Coco has an affair with him. Coco doesn't know what to do, she finds both men very attractive, even though Mark has a wife, a child, and will probably return to Berlin. This presents a dilemma for Coco, who will have to make a choice between romantic love or sexual lust and between Eastern and Western traditions.
