São Jorge plot
In 2011, Portugal will begin the so-called "Year of the Troika" (EU, IMF and ECB austerity and economic restructuring). The country is struggling with a large national debt and among the Portuguese people this causes disconcerting situations. A growing number of families and businesses are unable to repay their installment loans. Jorge is an unemployed boxer who is in danger of losing his wife and son. His wife has decided to return to Brazil. Jorge is desperate to pay off his debts. He tries in vain to convince his wife to stay in Portugal. He eventually accepts a job at a debt collection agency and ends up in a world of violence and crime.
