Roger la Honte plot

In 1885, industrialist Roger Laroque, director of a factory in the city of Avray, pinned all his hopes on his invention, the first automobile powered by steam. But his partner, Gerbier, demands that he immediately repay a loan of 80,000 francs. That same evening, Gerbier is murdered and robbed by a sinister stranger. From her window, Henriette, Laroque's wife, along with her daughter Suzanne, has seen a man enter the house of their neighbor Gerbier. They both think it was Roger, because he wore similar clothes. Roger, however, was with his mistress at the time of the murder and now does not want to embarrass the latter with the matter.
