Riding Uphill plot

Koji Hamajima is a 39-year-old man who trains at the Shuzenji Keirin School to become an official racer. Surrounded by young boys who are up to 20 years younger than him, Koji struggles to keep up with the level of daily training. Eight years earlier, Koji was a professional baseball player with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. After his discharge from this baseball team, he leads a messy life. Koji becomes frustrated and betrays his best friend and his family. He leaves his wife and son and goes back to his hometown. An acquaintance from the local ramen restaurant encourages him to become a cyclist.
