Proxy plot
When the heavily pregnant Esther Woodhouse walks home from her appointment with the gynecologist, she is attacked and mutilated by a man wearing a hood. This horrific event turns out to be a blessing when she finds solace in a support group. Her once lonely and sad life is opened up to friendship, understanding and even acceptance. But friendship and understanding can be dangerous when accepted by the wrong people.
