Morbid.

The chilly, icy look is something that lingers from minute one to the end. Sober, gloomy parts, gray color work, and devoid of any kind of soundtrack. Only the icy silences remain. Add to that a number of brutally brutal torture scenes, which do come in moderate numbers, and you can come to the conclusion that this is not a happy film. A fairly impressive one.

Unfortunately, Grou made a few mistakes in the second half. For example, the hair-triggered side path with the former victim was superfluous. In any case, the film could have been reduced a bit in terms of length, although the final scene is certainly worth it. The two closing sentences speak volumes.

Despite some unfortunate choices, a pretty powerful film. One that deviates from the usual genre conventions, and packs a few punches. Spacious 3.5*.

Bruno's beautiful life as a happy family man and surgeon is completely turned upside down when just about the worst thing imaginable happens to him: his daughter is kidnapped, raped and murdered. Les 7 Jours du Talion is actually an hour and a half exploration of the theme of revenge: Bruno, in turn, kidnaps the murderer of his daughter and tortures it for a week. It is a raw, gray film, in which all events are shown in a depressing, very realistic way. On the one hand, the torture that Bruno inflicts is not wrong, and it is also shown quite graphically - on the other hand, he goes wild but it doesn't get really over-the-top extreme. But this is also primarily a thriller/drama, showing that even a basically normal person can develop into a brutal sadist under the 'right' circumstances.

On the one hand, the film made an impression, especially because of the serious undertones, and the fact that the film is well put together in terms of cinematography and acting. But the story started to drag on quite a bit - plot wise not much happens other than Bruno being tortured, and the police trying in vain to find out where Bruno and the killer/victim are. ] And that turned out to be a bit meager to fill an hour and three quarters of an hour. Definitely worth it, but a real winner, unfortunately not.

Nothing for me.

Although I thought beforehand that this would definitely be something for me. I can appreciate slowness and brutality in the long run, and these two can be a strong element together. Despite the fact that 7 Days contains quite a bit of each aforementioned element, this film didn't really grab me.

That may have to do with the characters failing to captivate in any way. Set up and filled out by default, they never really manage to bring the characters to life. Some attempts are made, but as far as I'm concerned the characters remain just as lifeless as the look of the film itself.

By the way, I don't want to say that the lifeless is a bad element in terms of appearance, because the gray and sad cinematography fits perfectly into the film. The tone is hard and cold, also fitting for a film like this one. I can't say the violence really got to me beyond that, but the setup is tough enough to make it work somehow.

The torture is also not the center of this film, because 7 Days is still pretty much about drama. The point is that the drama doesn't interest me at all and the incredibly slow pace only gets in the way more. I have to say that I was quite bored watching this movie, while I normally find these types of movies to be fine to watch.

The remake, Daddy's Little Girl, seemed to go a little more towards the torture and they hit it harder in my opinion. I prefer the remake of this film as one of the few. I couldn't get in here at all. The tone is right and brutal, but the film itself didn't impress me. Looking forward to it, sorry. Extra points for the tone and cinematography.
