Prag plot

Christoffer travels with his wife Maja to Prague. The trip has two purposes, first of all to sign papers to return the body of his deceased father to Denmark. Then to rekindle the hopeless relationship with his wife. The couple soon realizes that although Prague is a modern democracy, it still has many old Eastern European traits that do not all make life easy.

Largely agree with gmx. A very typical Danish drama film, perhaps a bit cliché but with a very own taste. The combination of theme and Prague certainly makes the film very special for me.

Madsen makes original use of colours, voices and editing, which drags you into the film, but at the same time leaves many questions open. An example is a scene where Christoffer and Maja are sitting on the bed when the truth has just come out, and you see them making love a little later. It leaves a lot open, but fills the drama at the same time, with an intensity that works very well.

The only drawback I found was Mikkelsen's coldness. I've rarely seen him play other roles anyway, but I think when it really matters, like the slum eruption, he doesn't give enough depth to that emotion and his character. Anyway, a flaw in an otherwise very nice film.

Beautiful, fresh and promising. Thick 3.5*.

Expectations were again slightly higher than could be fulfilled.

Not a bad film, but a bit worried about a Danish couple in marital crisis who are in Prague to pick up the man's deceased father.

The city of Prague is occasionally very beautiful in the picture, but most of it takes place indoors in the hotel, in a restaurant, in the pub.

Worth it, but not the expected masterpiece.

A rather depressing film about a couple who walk around in Prague to pick up Christoffer's deceased father on the one hand and to save their own relationship on the other. One goes faster than the other. Prague, a beautiful city along the Danube of which we only see fragments here. Prague comes across as very cold and gloomy, entirely in keeping with the atmosphere of the film. Most scenes also take place indoors, in a restaurant, the hotel room, the mortuary…

Contacts with the Prague population are also difficult and very distant. Businesslike and with little emotion or empathy. The scenes with the waiter in the restaurant are a nice illustration of this. The atmosphere of the old cold communism was intentionally or unintentionally quite strong.

A great Mikkelsen here, who shows off best in such films anyway. The marital crisis also comes to the fore. Not wanting to be seen (anymore), literally living next to each other. It is also nicely reflected in the restaurant scene where one leafs through a magazine while the other sits blankly. Let the latter be precisely what the woman accuses the man of.

Definitely worth seeing! Mikkelsen is never easy to turn down.
