Pontiac Moon plot
On the eve of the first moon landing, teacher Washington Bellamy plans a unique outing to teach his son Andy ideals. He aims to travel the same distance as between the Earth and the Moon in his classic Pontiac to end up in a spot in Idaho known as "Spires of the Moon." His wife Katherine, who suffers from agoraphobia after a car accident, refuses to accompany him on this journey. Father and son set out on their own until Katherine senses that something is wrong with her son Andy. She overcomes her fear and rushes after her husband and son. Meanwhile, Washington and Andy have the misfortune that the Pontiac breaks down, but Father Bellamy steals an expensive machine to complete the trip.
