Péril en la Demeure plot

"Some eroticism with your thrills!"

A millionaire and his younger wife hire David as a guitar teacher for their teenage daughter. David is soon seduced by the lady of the house. At the same time, he becomes acquainted with the curious neighbor who uses a stick. One night, David is ambushed but rescued by Daniel, a hit man. The men become friends. Then David is shown videotapes of his affair with the millionaire wife as well as his partner in this adultery. This is the beginning of a series of events involving manipulation, murder, suicide, bribes, more videos and a somewhat surprising denouement.

Overly complex and certainly not very clear psychological thriller with a bunch of well-known and skilled French actors who make up the best of the film. The film remains interesting for a long time (thanks to Garcia, Böhringer, Anemone...) but does not end exactly logically and acceptably.

Michel Deville uses a wooden way of filming here. The conversations are not fluid, but resemble bits of theater and are not played very well. But even because the story doesn't tell everything clearly, you still keep watching with interest. The classical music that repeats itself fills that in nicely. A few erotic scenes. This is another film in which Michel Piccoli's potential is only used to a very limited extent. Imbd has somewhat higher ratings for this film, but I don't share those.

Special atmosphere in this French-style thriller, with a touch of eroticism. A music teacher is employed by the Tombsthay couple to give guitar lessons to their daughter. He is immediately seduced by Mrs. Tombsthay and they become lovers. He also becomes a friend at home of neighbor Edwige, an oversexed and voyeuristic woman with a mobile disability. Finally, he is saved during a robbery by Daniel, an assassin...

I don't understand what is so difficult about this film... Both Tombsthay, Edwige and Daniel play games with David... the lady wants to use him to escape her husband, Edwige secretly makes images because she is voyeuristic and involves him in her game, and Daniel is in fact a man with suicidal thoughts. . It is somewhat funny how the somewhat naive music teacher accepts everything with some indifference. He goes with the flow and therefore finds himself in a strange situation. It can feel a bit distant and the dialogue is often ambiguous, but it still felt successful to me and explicit noir accents emerge. Deville received the César for best director for this.
