Mary Turner is sentenced to three years in prison for a crime she did not commit. After being released from prison, Mary and her friends hatch a plan whereby old men could be prosecuted for breaking their promise: the "heart balm" extortion scheme. After plotting various ways to get back to the men who initially take an interest in her, Mary seems to soften and settle down.
