Jack Kulper and Bill White work together on a steam train. Jack as an engineer and Bill as a stoker. To celebrate his wedding anniversary, Jack invites his buddy Bill to his house. There it immediately clicks between Bill and Jack's wife Lily. To avoid worse, Bill leaves without giving a reason. When Jack confronts him with his suspicions, a fight breaks out in which Jack is injured. Overcome with guilt, Bill tries to mend the friendship, but Jack thinks otherwise…
