Dear movie friends,

I want to apologize in advance for my somewhat plastic approach, so...

Still this reservation about portraying 'real sex scenes', so to speak.

The most erotic scene for me was the beating of Joe by that unbelievably bad cast author who once played Billy Elliot. As you may recall, her vagina was shown quite close (and she came in this scene).

Well, I noticed she wasn't wet at all. Especially with this type of body hair, I expected at least a light sparkle (due to moisture) and also a little more opening.

All this aside, of course.

I'll just pass it along.

Still a strong scene and ditto film. A 3.5 . for me

Separate and very long drama film about Joe's life. She herself thinks that she is a nymphomaniac, but her behavior in the film has all the hallmarks of a (sex) addiction: it dominates her entire life, she abandons partner and child, is constantly looking for satisfaction (reward ), the effect decreases (adaptation), more and more is needed (higher dose), adaptation is increased and satisfaction (reward) is not forthcoming, search for other forms (switching to more intense 'drugs'), normal functioning is no longer possible, help is called in, but also rejected.... A sex addiction is comparable to an addiction to hard drugs!

In the film, Joe is lovingly cared for and cared for by Seligman. He is the opposite of her because he is asexual. She tells him her life story and through flashbacks we see how her life has played out. The interaction between Joe and Seligman is interestingly elaborated: he tries to show understanding for her life by means of metaphors from his own life. At first I felt some disgust at Joe's promiscuous behavior. Later the understanding, even pity because there is a lot of loneliness in her life, became sadness at the loss of Jerôme, the love of her life, and her child. At the end of the film a violent plot twist with a gruesome ending and then I felt horror.......

Cinematography: Covered colors, both indoors and outdoors. Music appropriate to the scenes. I watched the film in 4x1 hours, because I thought it was too long in a row because the film also needs time to 'land'....... I thought this film was good, but a little less 'artistic' than Antichrist!

Lars von Trier is definitely one of my favorite directors. So I was curious about this movie. The story appealed to me, although I generally don't like that much sex in movies. So I bought it and last weekend I watched it spread over both days. Part I is very strong. Stacy Martin portrays her role well, the story interested me and I like that typical style of von Trier. I found it compelling and very intrigued by it. Then part II... I still thought it was a good movie. I do think the transition from Stacy Martin to Charlotte Gainsbourg is great. It almost didn't feel like the same person and I personally didn't see the need to replace Stacy Martin with Gainsbourg after just three years. However, I was not bothered by Gainsbourg's acting. I never really cared about the acting in this film. I sometimes found the sex and genitals portrayed very explicitly, unpleasant to look at, so I flushed through bits. I think it's possible, but I don't necessarily have to see everything. I like the artistic, which is also characteristic of von Trier, and I like the bridge between Seligman's sciences and Joe's story. It kind of felt like Joe was telling me her story and confiding in me, which I thought was a nice feeling. I like the movie and I think the ending is appropriate. It was a long sit, but worth it. 4*
