Oblomov is a 19th century Russian civil servant and landowner. One day he decides to go to bed and not get up again. He would rather sleep through life than face all that misery. Then he is visited by his old friend Shtoltz. A series of flashbacks shows why it is precisely this friend's presence that Oblomov decides to pick up his life again.
