Glasgow, 1973. Young teenager John McGillan is about to start high school. He is a smart, sensitive boy, eager to go to college, but luck is not with him. His family is penniless, his hated father a drunken bully. His teachers – who punish him for his older brother's 'sins' – are against him from the start. John is on his own. And then there are the gangs. The 'Neds' (Non-Educated Delinquents). Crooks with weapons and attitude. Keen for revenge, John joins them. But his anger and frustration push him further and further to the brink of collapse. Without a future. With only one extraordinary chance of redemption.
