"The most dangerous thing to want is more."

During a long, hot summer, two 16-year-old girls from the same Yorkshire village meet. They are completely different, yet they feel a connection. Mona has had a difficult childhood and longs for a different life without the daily grind. Tamsin is cheerful and of good descent, but also has a gloomy and rebellious side. Fascinated but also confused, Mona immediately realizes that a new time has arrived for her.

A bit bizarre given and course, but three excellent actors certainly help to raise this film above the average. The photography is also beautiful and the intrigues original and captivating. Fine drawing of two teenagers, who have definitely tasted of society and what is a fantasy and play for one is deadly reality for the other. The ending will have surprised any spectator, but it comes across as believable and the whole is fresh, often fascinating and intelligently constructed. Nathalie Press left a good impression on me.

Excellent coming of age story about the initially loving, but ultimately toxic relationship between two young women. Superb acting by Natalie Press and Emily Blunt, and Blunt in particular puts in an impressive performance. Just like Mona , you trust her, but you also know that something is wrong with Tamsin.

A subplot around Mona's brother could have been cut short, and the focus could have been more on the two women. Compliments also for the direction of Pawlikowski (Cold War), because the film looks great. It's summer, and the hormones are flying through the air. Mona sees it as more than a fleeting summer love, but the lying Tamsin sees it differently (or is she lying to herself too?). Luckily Mona leaves all the mess behind in the end.

Solid film by Pawlikowski of whom I recently saw "The last resort". I found this "My summer of love" just a little less, I was less touched by it, but it certainly offered sufficient quality. It is a film that is carried by contradictions.

In the first place, between wealth and poverty when two teenagers seem to have more in common than they saw at first sight. Their handling and relationship is quite interesting to follow and, in my opinion, could be developed even more strongly. In that regard - and I read that in a review here as well - I was taken out of my element by the brother's unnecessary subplot. A subplot that I found not only uninteresting, but also rather bizarre to unbelievable.

Beautiful viewing experience, excellent cinematography and excellent acting, but also a film that will probably be erased from memory after a few months.
