Miracle on Interstate 880 plot

On October 17, 1989, San Francisco was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale. One of the consequences of the disaster is the collapse of the highway 'Interstate 880'. Many road users are buried under layers of asphalt and concrete. Doctor Jim Betts and other rescuers make desperate efforts to free six-year-old Julio Beruman and his sister from their predicament. Dock worker Buck Helm is also buried under the rubble. His wife and children wait days in uncertainty about his fate.
