Miracle on 34th Street plot

"Capture the spirit of Christmas with this timeless classic!"

Christmas is always celebrated exuberantly in New York. Doris Walker, who doesn't get it that way on Christmas, is tasked with managing this event for the large department store Macy's. When one of the Santas shows up drunk at work, old Kris Kringle is called in to replace him. The man tries to get people into the Christmas spirit again and even claims to be the real Santa Claus. When Kringle is declared insane after a psychological examination, he ends up in prison. Fred Gaily, a friend of Doris, must now prove in court that Kringle is indeed the real Santa Claus.

With that Sinterklaas Kapoentje I had my WTF moment of the day, but also some pride. Furthermore, this film is cloyingly sweet, but expertly made and it works. Especially around this time of year (although the film was released in America in May). In addition, the second part with the courtscenes is certainly very entertaining. Furthermore, beautifully acted by Gwenn. And it's very nice that remains in the middle whether the best man is real or not. The viewer can also decide that for themselves, partly because the parents all get their own gifts and there is not a moment of magic to be found in them. Very refreshing. The first hour is sometimes a bit difficult to get through and the whole romance is dragged in at the end, but it was really unnecessary. 3.5*.

After 5 years it was high time for a review, now the third time that I have been able to admire this Christmas classic and it all remains extremely entertaining.

Maybe a bit long-winded towards the end, but luckily it's not too bad.

Edmund Gwenn seems to act so naturally that it almost seems as if he is the real one and only Santa Claus, he clearly carries this film to a higher level.

Still a fun film and 3.5 stars remain anyway.

Wonderful end-of-year feel-good movie. Intelligent script and brilliant performances, not least from Edmund Gwenn as Santa Claud. A must see with children to show them a quality classic.

The film also includes footage of the 1946 Christmas parade in New York and several other interesting location shots.
