"He's an angel... Not a saint."
Two Chicago tabloid reporters, along with an 'angel expert', are asked to travel to Iowa, where a woman claims to share her home with an angel named Michael. They discover that she is telling the truth, but Michael is not what they expected: he smokes, drinks and has a colorful vocabulary. They'd never believe he's an angel were it not for the two wings attached to his back. Michael agrees to travel to Chicago with the trio and the trip will change their lives forever.

In this Drama / Romance movie, John Travolta plays an angel. Not a standard angel, but an archangel built to fight the Devil, not to pluck harps 
Archangel Michael (John Travolta) doesn't mince words, smokes like a heretic, has a beer belly, all the ladies fall for him and lives in a dilapidated hotel. He thinks the earth is a nice vacation spot, but it's the last time he's there. As an angel, you can only make a limited number of visits to humanity. On this latest trip, Michael still manages to thaw the heart of a cynical journalist, Dorothy Winters (Andie MacDowell).
The film by gooey director Nora Ephron (known for the Romantic / Comedy film "Sleepless in Seattle (1993)") is on John Travolta based, regardless of quasi-spiritual side stories. And John Travolta indeed proves charismatic enough to carry this featherweight production and also makes this film entertaining enough to watch. The original script was full of black humor, but in the hands of Nora Ephron not much remains.
All in all a somewhat disappointing Drama / Romance film, with a nice role by John Travolta.
