Good.

I didn't expect this right away, but this turned out to be a very good film that made me think for a while. Maybe this isn't a full-blooded horror, but the nasty scenes and atmospheric moments were certainly there.

Some scenes in particular excel in suspense, there may also be moments on the edge of your seat. It remains quite calm and it is certainly not shock after shock moment, but the horrific soundtrack and horrific moments came out surprisingly well.

The dialogues weren't too good which makes a lot of sympathetic disappear, at times it seemed like I was watching FSOG. Fortunately, these moments don't last too long. The acting is excellent, especially for those ages every actor does a very decent job.

I didn't see the denouement coming either, this film surprised me positively and gets a more than satisfactory rating from me. At times I thought it looked quite a bit like horror, even though it might not really be a horror.

House.. Ghost.. Baby.. Also on netflix..

May you still be pleasantly surprised

When the film has ended, I could also name a film that had some 'features' of it.

But to be honest, during the whole movie I was actually wondering what was going on.

Was misled a few times during the film.

I think the acting is also good, for me the neighbor Anya Taylor-Joy and the small child, Matthew Stagg, stand out.

Not an annoying little screaming child, but an endearing kid.

Playing with something you don't see, but might be there. Or is it just a drama. Awaken the suggestion.

Yet also be drawn into the drama that takes place.

Then you can be scared of something simple.

So actually a very good movie, great entertainment.

Gosh yes .. Not exactly a movie that makes you happy. Not that this is the kind of genre where you expect that of course, but I found the twist really tragic and dark. Maximum effect on that side. The kind of twist that makes it clear that trauma has broken a character so completely mentally that he starts imagining things, and even develops multiple personalities is somehow one of the most tragic things imaginable . It's not exactly new territory, but it's portrayed perfectly, and then you score points, of course. It's also not something that you really see coming, but in retrospect I think it seems appropriate, so only for that I would like to see the film again in the future, with the twist in mind.

But okay, the plot twist isn't the whole movie. The first half is a bit lackluster. The atmosphere was gloomy enough to keep it interesting, but I still spent almost an hour wondering what it was all about. And some cliché moments and jump scares are all but avoided, which I find strange on the one hand, because in general Marrowbone seems to be above this. Another big plus are the acting performances, especially from George MacKay and Anya Taylor-Joy. Both very promising talents in my opinion. I'm a big fan of Taylor-Joy in particular. For those who share this sentiment, I recommend the movie The VVitch, where she plays even stronger than here. They two have the focus on themselves, and know how to carry this with ease. I hope, and expect, to see many more of them in the future.

For most of the film it seemed to me that it was emotionally heading for a solid 3*, but the twist made me feel very sad, so it reached its full effect. So I'm going to stick to a nice 3.5*.
