Marley & Me plot

"Heel the love."

Marley is a yellow Labrador who is adopted by John Grogan, a newspaper columnist, and his wife Jennifer. The idea was to get an idea of what parenthood is all about, but the dog turns out to be quite hyperactive. He wrecks things, gets kicked out of obedience school and only gets worse when John and Jennifer have kids.

Actually, I was just now ready to watch this movie. My boxer, my buddy for 10 years unfortunately also passed away this year . Always cheerful, always putting a smile on your face. Of course you can sometimes get very annoyed when she broke something or your freshly washed pants could go back into the washing machine after 1 blob of slime. Yet a dog is just a full-fledged family member. This film shows the journey with your naughty companion perfectly. The dog takes center stage and everything around it is actually pure padding. I had a really hard time at the end. Very recognizable and it did me good that Marley had such a beautiful life. All people who have a pet will see many recognizable situations in this film. A big smile and a painful tear wrapped in a nice storyline.

Nice video. The dog makes it especially fun and pathetic now and then.

Other than that, it's certainly nothing special.

I'm not exactly sure what to think of this, because it's actually a really bad movie, but it somehow manages to entertain quite a bit - perhaps because of that.

The film piles up clichés, everything runs so smoothly that you don't have to expect anything from any drama, the fights are only there to bring some 'weight', the film seems to be unable to choose between dog acts annoying (and that slapstick is very bland) and young family is growing up, the actors are experienced in this kind of movie and seem to be on autopilot, et cetera et cetera.

Still, the film has its moments. It was shot quite nicely, Alan Arkin as John's boss is funny (although we already know this role), Florida is a great location and because of that naivety and cheerfulness the film is best to watch. However, the film is at least a good 20 minutes too long. 2.0*.
