Marian plot
Film about the short life of a gypsy boy. Marian Kovács has been interned almost all his life. At the age of three he was taken away from his mother, not so much because she looked after him badly, but because the communist regime in Czechoslovakia did everything in its power to bring the 'ill-adjusted' Gypsy population into line by placing them in orphanages. As a gypsy, Marian doesn't speak Czech and is quickly labeled as a problem because of his rebellious behavior. When he stabs a teacher, he ends up in a juvenile detention center. There he secretly falls in love with Eva, a counselor. But years of emotional neglect have left him unable to build a normal, lasting relationship.
