Maria Chapdelaine plot

After five years at a boarding school, Maria Chapdelaine returns to her family who own a farm. Robert Gagnon, a childhood friend is secretly in love with her, but Maria is courted by Lorenzo Surprenant, a man on the run from the police. However, Maria is in love with François Paradis, a handsome poacher who promises her that they will marry in the spring when he returns from the far North.
