It's a good movie, although I thought it was more of a drama/thriller than a drama/comedy. Because of Robin Williams the emphasis is on comedy, but that is also the weak point of this film because I didn't really find Robin Williams funny (I often irritated him) and it would have been better to give his role to a more serious person because then this movie would undoubtedly have been better. This film is not bad at all, because the story is quite well put together and also knows how to captivate. The story is of course somewhat based on the presidential election in 2000 between George Bush and Al Gore. The cast did a pretty good job outside of Robin Williams, especially Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Linney.

Man of the Year is a movie that I once watched a small part (a few years ago) and then turned it off. Today I checked him again to see if he still liked it so much.

In the beginning I had the idea. Because the movie starts slow and boring. I could hardly find a funny joke anywhere and I didn't understand how the movie was going to fill the time. Only after it is finally known that Tom is the president does the film seem to get going. I just read that some people found the 'thriller part' (so the second half about) less than the first, but with me it was the other way around. Once the film turns into a thriller, it gets more interesting. It is a pity that this only seems to apply to the film, because in the genre that does not amount to much. But I did notice that it was much easier to keep my head on the second half than the first.

The acting is fine. Robin Williams is doing okay, but I couldn't laugh at him that much. Now I'm not a big fan of his either, but I think I've seen him better. The rest of the cast is doing just fine. Laura Linney, Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum deliver good acting.

I'm not really sure how to rate the film, also because I don't really have a clear sense of what I've been watching. In any case, I thought it was a disappointment on the comic level. But I found the thriller part much more entertaining to watch. I'm not sure what grade to give, but I'll keep it at one:

2*

Nice president.

Robin Williams can use all his stand-up experience in this comedic film about a politically engaged, fun-loving talk show host who is elected president of the United States. Williams knows funny jokes, but sometimes misses the mark. The real show-stealer is of course Christopher Walken, but apparently the thriller aspect is inevitable and so the film feels unbalanced and things derail in a strange run-up to the lackluster finale.

Reasonable.
