"Love makes everything possible."
Emilia is a young woman who falls in love with her married boss Jack. After Emilia becomes pregnant with him, Jack decides to divorce his wife and marry Emilia. But their happiness is short-lived: their daughter dies 3 days after birth. Emilia is devastated with grief but nevertheless tries to pick up the thread again. She tries hard to bond with her eight-year-old stepson William, but Jack's jealous ex tries to sabotage every attempt. Can Emilia get her life back on track?

Good film in which a woman starts a relationship with her married boss. A fine family drama in which the interaction between the stepson and the stepmother is credibly portrayed and provides the most beautiful moments. Maybe a bit predictable or cliché here and there, but this is partly made up for by Natalie Portman. A narrow 3.5 stars.

Fine. Love and Other Impossible Pursuits does revel in its own drama at times, and Lisa Kudrow really plays a terrible character. And not in a good way, because she feels like a caricature. But everything else is good, and Natalie Portman is fantastic as a woman who has to endure a lot (sometimes through her own fault), and Portman knows how to make Emilia a layered and powerful character. You sympathize with her, and especially her guilt for her deceased daughter is heartbreaking. Fortunately, there are also some light-hearted moments in the film, but this remains a straight drama.
