Louisiane plot
Virginia (Margot Kidder) returns from Paris around 1830 to her late father's cotton plantation in Louisiana. Nothing seems to be left of the original wealth and all slaves have been sold. Doggedly, she begins a fight to restore the property, setting her sights on marriage to a wealthy Marquis, who owns the largest and richest plantation in Louisiana. Virginia falls in love with Clarence, the Marquis' foreman, but there is a secret that will keep them from getting married. Eventually the marriage with the rich Marquis takes place and after his death Virginia becomes mistress of the plantation. Ten years later, she meets Clarence again, but their love still proves impossible.
