Lebenszeichen plot
In 1942, the German soldier Stroszek is sent from Crete to the Greek island of Kos to recuperate from wounds received during the war. He has to guard an old ammunition depot there, which is kind of a pro forma position, as there is hardly any war activity on this island. Stroszek is joined by Meinhard, a brave warrior, Becker, a former classical philology student, and his wife Nora, a Greek to whom he is married. There is little to do on the island and Stroszek slowly becomes restless and irritable, then maddened, without his companions discovering the reason.
