Le Petit Chose plot

After the revolution of 1848, the Eyssette family is ruined and they are forced to sell the factory, where they had led a rich civilian life. The father settles in Lyon with his wife and his two sons, Jacques and Daniel. The latter receives a scholarship and enrolls as an external student at the city's college. He is a petite boy and because of his difficult to pronounce name they call him 'Little Thing'. Meanwhile, his parents' financial situation deteriorates even further.
