Le Marchand de Venise plot
Venice, 1520. A ship belonging to the shipowner Antonio, the "Saint-André", is ready to leave for Smyrna, from where it will return a large cargo of goods. In the evenings there are luxurious parties in the city. To settle a debt of 3,000 ducats. Bassanio appeals to Antonio, who, while awaiting the proceeds of his sale, must turn to the usurer Shylock, a man despised by all for his stinginess and notorious in Venice.
