Laila plot
The family of Laila, the daughter of shopkeeper Lind, is on her way to church because the girl will be baptized there. However, a group of wolves throws a spanner in the works and attacks the family. The fight causes the girl to fall from the sled and is rescued at the last moment by Jåmpa, the servant of the wealthy woman Aslag Laagje, who takes care of Laila and tells everyone that it is her own daughter. She grows up with Laagje's foster son Mellet, who falls in love with her. But Laila meets her "real" cousin Anders Lind and falls in love with him and they decide to meet up one night. Anders doesn't show up because his father has suddenly become very ill, but Laila thinks he has abandoned her and decides to marry Mellet. The wedding is about to start, will Anders still be able to make it in time?
