La Peste plot

A modern variant of the plague breaks out in a South American city. The city is closed by soldiers. Doctor Bernard Rieux (William Hurt) decides to stay in order to care for the victims of the disease in the best possible way. The plague creates a number of desperate situations, from which the powerlessness of Rieux and his helpers sometimes becomes painfully visible.
