L'Oncle de Russie plot

During World War II, the Germans sent countless prisoners to the Soviet Union. At the end of the war, most of these prisoners are kept in Russia, because the authorities need people to rebuild the country. During the Cold War, these people are reported as 'missing' by the Russian government and no contact with the West is tolerated. The next of kin of these people assume that their loved ones are dead. Gaston Boissac is one of these prisoners. He has been in the Soviet Union since 1945. Neither his family nor his fiancée have ever received any of his letters. Times change when Gorbachov comes to power. In 1989, at the age of seventy, Gaston finally returns to his native village of Soulières.
