Katerina Izmailova plot

Film adaptation of the opera by Dmitri Shostakovich. Katerina is unhappily married to the flour merchant Zinovy. The marriage is childless and her father-in-law, Boris, forces her to take a vow of chastity while Zinovy is away on a business trip. However, Katerina is seduced by Sergei, a popular civil servant. Boris has Sergei locked up and sends a messenger to Zinovy to return him home.
