Kanko no Machi plot
When World War II comes to a head, residents of a narrow Tokyo street are forced to leave their homes because the government demands this space. The importance of the land takes precedence over that of the individual residents who all have a personal reason why they are so attached to this place. The film follows a woman who mourns her husband who disappeared without a trace ten years earlier, an elderly bathhouse owner and a young woman who, to the horror of her family, is in love with a young pilot. They have all been forced to say goodbye not only to their home, but also to some of their memories.
