Inquietude plot

In the first part of Inquietude, a father advises his famous son to commit suicide. The boy already seems quite senile and if he dies now, at least he will keep his fame. When the son actually makes an attempt, the curtain of the theater in which this story is being performed falls and the action moves to the audience in the hall. Two of these visitors, a man and a woman, are the main characters of the second episode. We are now in pre-war Oporto. The woman is the courtesan Suzy, who has to undergo a serious and dangerous operation. To comfort her heartbroken lover (the man from the theater), a friend tells him the saga of Fisalina. This saga forms the third part of the film. The peasant girl Fisalina discovers that her fingers have become gold. 'The mother of the river', an old woman with golden fingers, turns out to have transferred her gift and her fate to the girl. Fisalina now has golden fingers, but in return she must be the mother of the river for a thousand years.
