I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings plot

1930s: Marguerite "Maya" Johnson and her highly intelligent brother grow up in Arkansas, where they must keep quiet so as not to perish from racism, but still have the opportunity to learn to read in a black school. However, it is by a black roommate that she is assaulted, after which she becomes silent isolation. However, she learns to find literary values that she wants to sing from the rooftops.
