Bank employee Ruth Brock has built a reputation in the city as a jovial and easily approachable young lady. Despite this, she is still single. Ruth disappoints man after man, but her latest boyfriend retaliates and tells a made-up gossip story about her. She would have an affair with a millionaire, who is also a playboy. As a result, Ruth loses her job. She considers using her newfound reputation to survive.
