Helleveeg plot
The story begins in America, where Jane (Mien Duymaer van Twist), a young woman of Dutch descent, is used to a luxurious life. Just after a broken relationship, she accidentally meets a Dutchman named Willem Hendriks (Co Balfoort) in a bar, who falls completely in love with her. He tells her that he has earned a lot of money in recent years and wants to go back to the Netherlands, preferably with Jane, and he promises her a luxurious life there. Once in the Netherlands, Willem confesses that he has a daughter from a previous relationship and that he wants to take her into their home. He has placed the daughter, Louise (played by Lily Bouwmeester), with the Van Wijck couple, whose wife is played by Theo Mann-Bouwmeester. However, Jane would rather lose the child than be rich and throw herself into her old life, that of spending money on drink and clothing. She ignores the new daughter, and when Willem's brother (Frits Fuchs), who sees this patiently, wants to intervene, she also wraps it around her finger, which gives her the nickname Helleveeg.
