During the Second World War in the English village of Denley, the women who are members of the Women's Institute are very excited when they hear that Eleanor Roosevelt, the American 'First Lady' is coming to visit them soon. The Women's Institute collects clothing and other items for Allied soldiers at the front. During the preparations for the important visit, all kinds of mutual relationships and secrets come to light, especially the love life and the neglect of the proud but poor father John Ellis of the young Margaret. Will the lives of the women of the 'Women's Institute' change before the 'Great Day', the day of the visit of the 'First Lady'?
