Not really.
Watts in her second US remake of a foreign horror film. Only this time not by the same makers, so this film is not literally a copy without subtitles. Still, this has to be defeated by the original film, which was many times stronger and more idiosyncratic. This feels more like puppet theater horror.
The actors in particular can't keep up with this film. Remaking a movie like this isn't the best move either, because a movie like the 2014 version is good thanks to the outcome. The monkey is out of the sleeve with this film and then there is not much left. Except for an overacting Watts who always struggles to act like a normal person.
The two little boys are annoying and the atmosphere that the original film managed to keep is completely missing from this film. Nowhere does it exude a haunting atmosphere or horror itself. The decoration as well as the setting are still nice, but that's the most positive thing to say. Please don't ever let those Watts show up in a horror movie remake again, because apparently they flop automatically.

Brothers Elias and Lukas [played by brothers Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti], after a long stay with their father [Peter Harmann], return to their mother [Naomi Watts], a celebrated actor who has had himself 'fixed' and therefore wears a plaster mask.
