Friends plot
Johannesburg in the mid-eighties. Thoko, a black teacher, grew up in a township and was able to study because her mother worked for white people. Her language is Zulu. Thoko is combative, but against the use of force. Aninka, who comes from a conservative Boer family, grew up sheltered. Her family speaks Afrikaans, she prefers English. She is against apartheid but self-centered and cautious. Aninka marries an older, liberal man at a young age. Sophie is of wealthy, English-speaking descent and clashes violently with her parents' colonial ideas. Despite the fact that the three women have their own image of apartheid, they are good friends.
