Fly with the Crane plot
Lao Ma, 73, and his good friend Cao were once coffin makers. As the Chinese government encourages cremation, the demand for coffins has literally ground to a halt. That's why Ma now spends his days with his grandchildren. When Ma returns from the fall festival with his daughter and her children, he is told that Cao has passed away and his coffin was secretly buried in a cornfield, somewhere next to a lake. A few days later, Ma claims to have seen a white crane, the Chinese sign of wisdom, at the lake, but no one believes him.
