"God wanted a fighter… and He found one."
When he has to end his career as an amateur boxer after an injury, Stuart Long moves to Los Angeles, dreaming of becoming a star. To make ends meet, he has a part-time job as a supermarket employee. While working there, he meets Carmen, a teacher at the Catholic Sunday School. She seems to be immune to his charms. Determined to win her over, the agnostic Stuart begins attending church services to impress Carmen. When he narrowly survives a motorcycle accident, Stuart wonders if he can use this second chance at life to help other people in similar situations find their way. Then Stuart realizes that he is destined to become a priest.

Stuart Long [Mark Wahlberg] is an aging atheist boxer who still dreams of a professional career until, on the advice of his doctor [Jim Holmes] and urging his mother [Jacki Weaver], he gives up on his dream. Shortly afterwards, he falls in love with Carmen [Teresa Ruiz], a young nun who introduces Stu to the local church community. There he sees the light and follows his new vocation: to be initiated as a priest. This paper-clad case of religious propaganda gains enormous credibility through Wahlberg's engaging and convincing rendition that required him to transform from a well-trained boxer into a fragile, overweight man.

Good film about a man who gives up his career as a boxer and goes in a completely different direction. A biopic about a man with a very special life story. Some fine dialogues and luckily the film manages to avoid sentiment. Marc Walhberg is not only well cast but also does an excellent job in the title role.

Don't expect a 'sister act'. This is much more of a drama. Then it looks fine. The movie poster seems to show something different. It actually floats on a bit. The dialogues are often too good/sharp to seem realistic. Obviously someone has thought about this for a long time. Thought it looked like miracles were actually happening but turned out not to be.
