How you view this film depends on your age and your own family situation.

Almost the entire story is tied together with lies. With one goal: to make your life more beautiful than it all is.

Everyone's excuse not to go to the father's reunion - beautifully played by Robert de Niro - 8 months after the mother's death, the father himself, despite the doctor's advice, unexpectedly takes the children himself to look up. He makes a long journey and arrives at contradictory statements that do not give the image that is reflected in the father.

A very dramatic-sentimental story, because in the hopeful thoughts of the father, one thing plays an important role. His illness and the drugs. Nevertheless, he wants to replace and continue the close contact that the mother had with the children.

The interpretation and filming of this - also broadly contemporary - sad story touch you in any case and the self-reproach beats at your heart.

The lock could have sent you either way. But this turns out to be the best solution to turn all those lies into the beautiful truths of the moment and to look life positively straight in the eye.

Highly recommended and worth a 4.5plus for me.

I simply give this film 5 stars, because the film delivers what it promises. And I think it's unanimous how everyone thinks about the role of De Niro and that's just phenomenal. And I was right in the movie, the atmosphere grabbed me. And it's not that kind of Hollywood ending. not everyone is sitting around the table who could still be there and with that I think it distinguishes itself sufficiently from a normal film, you feel that they are missing someone who should still be there. and the ending scene is just right for the title.

I also think it is a beautiful lesson, barring exceptions, we as children do not see what our parents do not leave for us as we get older. But they are still here and they still love you. All and all just 5 stars, especially considering the genre.

Nicely constructed story that wants to clarify two important life facts and fortunately does not address this in a corny way, namely people no longer have time for each other (especially the younger ones for the older generation) and that as a parent you ultimately just to see children happy.
A cast role for De Niro. 7/10
