Sissy Hankshaw was born with exceptionally large thumbs. She decides to make use of her handicap and becomes a professional hitchhiker. She travels across America with no fixed abode. One of her friends, The Countess, lives in New York. He owns the beauty farm and ranch 'The Rubber Rose' in Oregon. When he sends Sissy there for a photo session, she gets to know her great love Bonanza Jellybean. The encounter brings about a major change in Sissy's life.
