Idioterne plot

"Society is the mother of all Idiots."

The town of Sollerod is ravaged by a motley crew of newcomers. They pop up everywhere and pretend to be mentally handicapped. By letting their 'inner idiot' speak, they want to create a better world. Within the group, Stoffer emerges as a power-hungry leader. He challenges the others to push their sexual and psychological experiments to the limit. Now each of them is faced with the question of whether he is willing to break with his old life for good.

I'm probably an idiot.

Lars always knows how to fascinate me, his films have always had the kind of dogma filming, with a lot of zooming in and close ups, but this is of course pure dogma. Funnily enough, I'm carried away for this beautiful ugliness. Especially the absurdly good acting performances come out extra well because nothing seems forced or manipulated. The story is, as expected, unique but also has the necessary undertones. This time it is in itself something that is already going on, but von trier sheds light on it in a quirky way. Downside was that you occasionally saw the audio steel. Original with the interviews and especially nice that Lars himself plays the journalist. Yes this is my thing, although I understand that people find this jerk.

4.5 star

revised. Great strong movie. Beautifully told, very clever build-up of tension, sometimes very funny but also uncomfortable, good acting, and a film style that fits like a glove to what we get to see. I would say: Von Trier shows more cojones here than in recognized shock films like Antichrist and Nymphomaniac.

A very special movie. Really one of those where I'm like: what have I been looking at? I am very impressed. Especially because I think it's so daring, I think it's realistic and fairly deep. At the beginning I thought I would find it too bland, but in the end it was not so bad for me. I found it very uncomfortable to watch at times. I don't find really mentally handicapped uncomfortable, but people who pretend to do, and there is a lot of nudity in them. All in all, I think it's a strong, captivating film. 4*
