A former football star has to weigh up difficult options for herself after a dramatic spell in Spain. Ramiro Forteza was a goalkeeper for a championship football team in Madrid, but as Spain struggles to get back on its feet after the Civil War and there are no matches, he has no choice but to travel to the countryside and extort money from the locals. who hope to beat him in the penalty kick. One day, Ramiro is in an Asturian town, where he falls madly in love with the single mother Manuella. He has a son Tito and a brother Nando, who still has to take care of the wounds he sustained as a soldier of the resistance. Manuella also has to deal with Lopez, a member of the Civil Guard, who makes no secret of his sexual intentions towards her. Ramiro decides to stay in town for a while and takes a job that consists of doing odd jobs for the local good-hearted Catholic priest, Don Constantino.
