Easy Rider plot

"A man went looking for America and couldn’t find it anywhere..."

Wyatt (Fonda) and Billy (Hopper) are two hippie bikers heading to Mardi-Gras. It will be a ride with a lot of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, where they encounter the most diverse figures, such as the pleasantly insane lawyer George (Nicholson). However, they are not accepted by the "normal" population and that can sometimes cause problems.

Well, as a motorcyclist from that time ........ those helmets. Choppers, my comrade and I both had a chopper from a Jawa 350 Californian haha.

Actually viewed purely as a film and stripped of nostalgia, it is a crap film.

But still .... nostalgia, classic.

Strong cult film, which starts off light-hearted and uncomplicated, but quickly broaches a deep theme and a cultural, or perhaps human, critique. Easy Rider is firmly planted within the entire counterculture of the 1960s, but it addresses an issue that transcends that decade and is still relevant or at least valuable. Freedom versus assimilation, nature versus city, etc. The most interesting thing is of course that the two main characters turn out to be capitalists pur sang, although that is conveyed fairly subtly. Fonda's character seems to struggle with that in the end. We blew it. It doesn't end positively after that, and I kind of expected that. The ending isn't necessarily shocking, but it is very poignant. The stop in the first half of the film, with the people who had fled the city life, was in fact the solution, or the way out, denied by Elliot and Billy. At least, that's how I got it. that in retrospect. I thought it was cool that the film really lived on these deeper layers.
In addition, that uncomplicated feeling of course remains a part of the film. Wonderful images on the road, beautiful atmosphere and a fantastic soundtrack that almost constantly accompanies the driving of the motorcycles. Born to be wild by Steppenwolf seems to have been written for it, just like I wasn't born to follow, but the other lesser-known songs also fit perfectly into the atmosphere, or rather helped create that atmosphere. Peter Fonda and the always excellent Dennis Hopper are good in their roles, and especially the presence of Nicholson brings a lot of energy.

Still really very interesting. Atmosphere, music(!), actors and underlying themes make this a great road trip. 4*
