Der Schatz vom Toplitzsee plot

Germany, 1945. The Second World War is coming to an end. Germany wants to put counterfeit pound sterling notes into circulation to disrupt the English economy. However, this plan must be abandoned and the chests containing the counterfeit money are thrown into the Toplitzsee. 1959. Journalist Wolfgang Löhde (Joachim Hansen) is on the trail of former SS commander Johannes Grohmann (Gert Fröbe), who is now a wealthy banker and calls himself Dr. Brand. Löhde finds seventeen boxes with counterfeit notes and two documents in the Toplitzsee. Using this new evidence, he tries to expose Grohmann. Based on historical facts.
